Wrexham Fails to Secure Playoff Spot After Late Bristol City Goal
18 Feb
Summary
- Wrexham conceded a late equalizer, settling for a 2-2 draw against Bristol City.
- The team missed an opportunity to reclaim a spot in the Championship playoff positions.
- Wrexham currently sits in seventh place, just outside the top six.

Wrexham failed to secure a vital three points in their pursuit of Championship playoff contention, drawing 2-2 with Bristol City on Tuesday night. The Red Dragons held a lead on two occasions at Ashton Gate Stadium, with Ollie Rathbone scoring the opener and an own goal by Bristol's Joe Williams putting Wrexham ahead again in the 76th minute.
However, a late equalizer from Bristol substitute Max Bird in the 89th minute meant Wrexham had to settle for a single point. This result prevented them from reclaiming a place in the top six after falling out of the playoff spots last weekend following a defeat to Millwall.
Currently, Wrexham sits in seventh place, level on 48 points with Derby County, just outside the promotion playoff zone. Hull City and Ipswich Town, in fourth and fifth respectively with 54 points, remain ahead. The team is preparing for upcoming fixtures against Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, and Charlton.
Looking ahead, Wrexham faces a significant challenge in the FA Cup fifth round against Chelsea in early March. Subsequently, they will host Hull City, a team that previously defeated them 2-0.
