Giant Stadium Prepares for Soccer's Biggest Stage
3 Mar
Summary
- Stadium cost over $1.2 billion, nearly double the initial estimate.
- Will feature a 4K Jumbotron, largest of its kind with retractable roof.
- Grass for the pitch is grown in Colorado and shipped by truck.

The venue formerly known as AT&T Stadium, nicknamed 'Jerry World,' is set to host World Cup matches under the FIFA-designated name 'Dallas Stadium.' Located in Arlington, Texas, this colossal structure saw its construction cost surpass $1.2 billion, nearly twice the original projection. The stadium is renowned for its massive, four-sided 4K Jumbotron and one of the world's largest retractable roofs.
Preparations for the tournament include a significant turf change. While typically hosting the Dallas Cowboys on artificial turf, a predominantly grass pitch will be installed for the World Cup. This grass is cultivated in Colorado and will be transported via refrigerated trucks. To meet FIFA's wider pitch requirements, the surface level will be raised, and hospitality suites will be modified.
The stadium's capacity for the World Cup is projected at 70,122, though it has accommodated over 100,000 for past events. Its history includes record-breaking attendance for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game and a 2014 concert. Public transportation improvements are also planned, potentially connecting fans from Dallas and Fort Worth via train and bus to the venue.
