The highly anticipated Winter Olympics 2026 are commencing in northern Italy, utilizing a unique multicentre format across several cities. Officially named Milano Cortina 2026, the games are scheduled from February 4 to February 23, welcoming athletes from 90 nations.
This year's event will showcase 16 diverse sports, including the debut of Ski Mountaineering, with a total of 116 medal events. Traditional disciplines such as Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Ice Hockey, and Figure Skating will also be featured, with venues spread across Milan, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Valtellina, Val di Fiemme, and Verona.
The competition model prioritizes sustainability and a blend of sporting heritage with modern planning. Indian athletes Arif Mohammad Khan and Stanzin Lundup are set to compete in Alpine Skiing and Cross-Country Skiing, respectively. Athletes from 89 other countries, including the host nation Italy, will vie for medals.
