Wilder: Middlesbrough Best Team Faced
10 Feb
Summary
- Middlesbrough is now the top team in the Championship.
- Wilder believes his team needs to significantly improve.
- The Sheffield United manager acknowledged Middlesbrough's strength.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder conceded that Middlesbrough, now leading the Championship, is the strongest opponent his team has encountered this season. He praised Middlesbrough's "statement win" following their 2-1 victory over United at Bramall Lane.
Wilder expressed disappointment with his team's performance, suggesting they were operating at a "six-and-a-half and sevens" level. He stressed the necessity for players to reach "seven-and-a-halves and eights" when facing a team in such strong form and momentum.
Despite the outcome, Wilder noted that the match might have seemed evenly contested to neutral observers. However, he maintained that Sheffield United ultimately fell short of the required intensity and quality to challenge the league leaders effectively.
