Justin Ishbia, who is set to acquire the White Sox in 2034, has presented preliminary plans for a new stadium in Chicago's South Loop. This new ballpark would be a central feature of "The Railyards," a vast redevelopment project slated for the 48-acre Amtrak 14th Street Coach yard.

To facilitate this development, Amtrak's maintenance facility would relocate to a vacant railyard in Bridgeport, near the current Guaranteed Rate Field. This move has drawn significant criticism from Bridgeport and Chinatown residents, as well as local officials Ald. Nicole Lee and Cook County Commissioner John P. Daley, who view it as a betrayal of the community.
Concerns raised by residents include potential pollution from the 24-hour Amtrak facility and negative impacts on future development in their largely residential neighborhoods. Lee and Daley advocate for revitalizing the existing stadium area rather than funding the new project. The development by Ishbia's company, Canal Edge, is still in its early stages, with a feasibility study underway.
