Welsh Rugby Chair Quits With Unresolved Issues
12 Mar
Summary
- Malcolm Wall resigns as chair of the Professional Rugby Board on Saturday.
- His term ends with several significant issues still unresolved.
- Plans to reduce Welsh men's teams from four to three are ongoing.

Malcolm Wall will conclude his role as the independent chair of the Professional Rugby Board (PRB) this Saturday, March 15, 2026, with certain significant matters still pending resolution. Wall, who has led the PRB since March 2022, will be succeeded on an interim basis by Marianne Okland, an existing independent non-executive member.
Wall's three-year term was extended at the request of PRB members, and its conclusion coincides with a critical period for professional rugby in Wales. The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is actively pursuing its controversial proposal to reduce the number of men's teams from the current four—Scarlets, Ospreys, Cardiff, and Dragons—to just three, with designated teams for the west, capital, and east of the country. Wall acknowledged the challenging circumstances of his tenure, stating that unresolved issues are unavoidable given the turbulent period for Welsh rugby.
