Summary
- Wellington Eagles seeded third in expanded 24-team 2A playoffs.
- Eagles aim for repeat state title, starting with a first-round bye.
- Potential semifinal rematch against The Classical Academy looms.
The Wellington Eagles are charting their course toward a potential second consecutive Colorado Class 2A football state championship. Seeded third in the newly expanded 24-team playoff field, the Eagles earned a first-round bye and will commence their postseason on November 6/7.
Having finished the regular season with an impressive 8-1 record and securing the Patriot League title, Wellington demonstrated their dominance with six consecutive blowout victories. Their only loss was a narrow one-point defeat earlier in the season.
Their path to the finals could feature a highly anticipated semifinal rematch against The Classical Academy, a team they have met in previous postseasons. This potential clash would be hosted by The Classical Academy as they hold the higher seed.
The state championship game is slated for November 28 at CSU Pueblo's ThunderBowl, where Wellington could face undefeated Elizabeth, the team they defeated for last year's title.
