Wales has finished the Commonwealth Games netball competition in a disappointing tenth position. The Welsh Feathers concluded their 2022 Birmingham campaign with a 63-53 loss to Tonga in the ranking play-off. This outcome places them two positions lower than their performance at the previous Commonwealth Games.
The team's overall campaign saw one victory and five defeats. Their sole win in the group stage was against Trinidad and Tobago. Despite a bright start against Tonga, leading 14-10 at the first quarter break, Wales were unable to maintain their advantage.
Tonga rallied in the second quarter, leveling the score at 29-29 by halftime. They continued to apply pressure, widening the gap to ten goals by the end of the third quarter. Although Tonga's goal keeper received a suspension in the final quarter for a dangerous contact, Wales could not overcome the deficit.
This match also served as the final engagement for head coach Emily Handyside, who stepped down from her role following the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games as previously planned.
