31 Jan
Summary
- Hokies boast pitching depth with six distinct pitchers.
- Players aim for a College World Series appearance in 2026.
- Team replaces senior production with emerging talent.
Virginia Tech Softball's media day on Friday revealed a team poised for the 2026 season, with head coach Pete D'Amour highlighting the squad's overall depth. The Hokies possess a versatile pitching staff of six, each offering unique styles to challenge opponents. Coach D'Amour emphasized flexibility, allowing pitchers to be deployed strategically without rigid labels.
Player aspirations are high, with a clear goal of reaching the College World Series in 2026. Last season's near miss in regional play fuels this determination. Infielder Jordan Lynch noted the team's unified focus on this ultimate objective.
The team is preparing to replace the production of key seniors from the previous season. However, Coach D'Amour expressed confidence, drawing parallels to past transitions where new players stepped up.
Early season play will feature tough competition, including six games against SEC teams, providing valuable learning opportunities before conference play begins.
