The No. 10 Virginia Cavaliers secured a dramatic 83-75 double-overtime victory against No. 2 Iowa in Iowa City, advancing to the Sweet 16. This resilient performance marks Virginia's deepest tournament run in 25 years.
Despite trailing by nine points in the fourth quarter and playing on Iowa's sold-out home court, Virginia battled back to force overtime. Junior guard Kymora Johnson was instrumental, playing all 50 minutes of the game and scoring 28 points, including key shots that sent the game into double overtime.
The Cavaliers' journey to the Sweet 16 has been arduous, requiring an overtime win in the first round and a First Four victory just days prior. Their tenacious play against a more experienced Iowa team, who held advantages in rebounding and paint scoring, highlighted Virginia's adaptability and grit.
