Summary
- Reliever Rico Garcia claimed off waivers by Baltimore Orioles
- Garcia spent brief stint on New York Yankees roster earlier this season
- Mets designated Garcia for assignment on August 3, 2025

In a move to bolster their bullpen, the Baltimore Orioles have claimed veteran right-handed reliever Rico Garcia off waivers from the New York Mets. This comes just a few weeks after Garcia spent a brief stint on the New York Yankees' 26-man roster earlier this season.
The 31-year-old Garcia signed a minor league contract with the Mets in November 2024, earning an invite to major league spring training. After a strong Grapefruit League performance, he was assigned to the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, where he posted a 4.45 ERA over 24 appearances and 30 1/3 innings. The Mets recalled Garcia on July 3, 2025, and he pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings for the big league club before being designated for assignment on July 11.
The Yankees then claimed Garcia off waivers on July 14, though he only appeared in one game for them, giving up three earned runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves on July 18. The Bronx Bombers subsequently designated him for assignment on July 19, and the Mets reacquired him off waivers on July 21. Garcia recorded a 3.38 ERA over six outings and eight innings in his return to the Mets before the team let him go this past weekend, paving the way for the Orioles to bring him in.
