Veteran NBA Player Brogdon Announces Surprise Retirement

In a surprising move, veteran NBA player Malcolm Brogdon has announced his decision to retire from the league after 9 seasons. The announcement comes just a week before Brogdon and the New York Knicks were set to officially open the 2025-26 campaign.

Brogdon's professional career began in 2016 when the Milwaukee Bucks selected him with the 36th overall pick out of the University of Virginia. He spent 3 seasons with the Bucks before moving on to the Indiana Pacers for another 3 years. Brogdon then had brief stints with the Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, and most recently, the Washington Wizards.

Last season with the Wizards, the 32-year-old Brogdon averaged 12.7 points and 4.1 assists in just 24 games as he dealt with multiple injuries. Despite the setbacks, Brogdon signed a 1-year, $3.3 million contract with the Knicks this offseason, though he was fighting for a final roster spot with the franchise ahead of opening day. Ultimately, Brogdon has decided to call it a career, leaving the Knicks to regroup ahead of the upcoming season.
