Veteran Duo Seeks to Rewrite NFL Record Books with Raiders
21 Aug
Summary
- Pete Carroll and Geno Smith reunite to lead the Raiders
- Duo previously made playoffs with Seahawks in 2022
- Chance to become only second coach-QB combo to reach playoffs

As of August 21st, 2025, veteran NFL head coach Pete Carroll has chosen to move forward with Geno Smith as the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders. The two previously worked together with the Seattle Seahawks, leading the team to the playoffs in 2022.
Now, Carroll and Smith are hoping to replicate that success with the Raiders. If they are able to guide the Raiders to the postseason, they will make history by becoming only the second coach-quarterback combination to achieve this feat. The last time it happened was over 50 years ago, when Don Shula and Earl Morrall accomplished the same with the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins.
The Raiders' new dynamic duo will be looking to build on their previous playoff appearance with the Seahawks last year. Their ability to work well together and lead a team to the playoffs could prove crucial in turning the Raiders into a contender once again in the highly competitive AFC West division.
