Vanderbilt freshman quarterback Jared Curtis saw his first action in the team's season opener against Austin Peay on September 5th. He entered the game in the second quarter with the Commodores leading. Curtis, a five-star recruit and the second-ranked quarterback in the 2026 class, previously committed to Georgia before flipping to Vanderbilt. He is an in-state product from Nashville Christian School.
Curtis competed with Blaze Berlowitz for the starting position throughout preseason. Despite Berlowitz being named the starter for the opener, Coach Clark Lea stated that the quarterback competition is ongoing. Lea confirmed that the starting quarterback will be decided week-to-week, and both quarterbacks played in the game. Berlowitz completed 8 of 11 passes for 127 yards and added a rushing touchdown.
