Vacherot Upsets Rune in Basel Thriller!

Valentin Vacherot has advanced to the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors Basel after defeating Holger Rune in a compelling quarterfinal clash. The match, played on Friday, October 30, 2026, saw Vacherot emerge victorious in a three-set battle. Rune, currently working his way back to form following an Achilles injury sustained last year, has had mixed results in his recent tournaments. He experienced early exits at the Japan Open and Shanghai Masters but had found momentum in Basel, defeating Quentin Halys and Hubert Hurkacz.

Vacherot, representing Monaco, has delivered a series of strong performances throughout the tournament. He began with a straight-sets win over Mariano Navone and followed up with an upset victory against third seed Rafael Jodar. This quarterfinal win over Rune adds another significant achievement to Vacherot's current run. Notably, this is not their first meeting; Vacherot previously defeated Rune in the 2025 Shanghai Masters quarterfinals, a tournament he went on to win.
