Utah State Joins Pac-12: A New Era Begins

Utah State University officially became a member of the Pac-12 Conference on Wednesday, July 2, 2026. This move concludes their 13-year affiliation with the Mountain West Conference, ushering in a new era for the athletic department. Preparations for this transition have been underway since September 2024, influencing recruitment, scheduling, and facility development.

The university celebrated this milestone with a community barbecue, reflecting a desire to connect with fans and alumni. Utah State enters the Pac-12 following its most successful athletic year, securing nine Mountain West championships in the 2025-26 academic year. This success, coupled with strategic hires and facility upgrades, positions the Aggies for increased competition.

President Brad Mortensen believes the Pac-12 affiliation will enhance the university's overall reputation, benefiting academics and research across the statewide system. The rebuilt conference, formed after significant realignment, offers Utah State an opportunity to help shape its future direction. Athletic Director Cam Walker highlighted the need for increased resources, launching a $2 million matching gift campaign to generate $4 million.

Coaches like Manny Martins (women's soccer), Kristen Zaleski (softball), Ben Jacobson (men's basketball), and Bronco Mendenhall (football) expressed excitement for the elevated competition and national exposure.
