Members of the Utes coaching staff, including running backs coach Mark Atuaia and offensive coordinator Kevin McGiven, visited Lopati at his home on February 3, 2026, to assess his recruitment status.
Lopati initially committed to Illinois in July but has since been receiving attention and offers from several power conference schools. His recruitment has intensified in recent days, with visits from coaches representing Michigan, Michigan State, UCF, Cal, Duke, Notre Dame, and Purdue, all within the January contact period. He has also received offers from prominent programs such as Washington, Oregon, and Oklahoma State.
As a junior, Lopati demonstrated significant talent on the field. He completed 64.8% of his passes for 2,651 yards and 33 touchdowns, with eight interceptions. He also contributed significantly to his team's offense with 723 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, helping West High School reach the 5A state playoffs semifinals. He is currently ranked as the No. 149 player nationally and the No. 12 quarterback in the 2027 class by 247Sports.
