The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added depth to their backfield by signing former Baltimore Ravens running back Owen Wright. The 26-year-old Wright, who hails from Bethesda, Maryland, spent the past two years with the Ravens but appeared in just one regular-season game.
Despite his limited regular-season reps, Wright made a strong impression on Ravens fans during his preseason performances. In 2023, he finished three preseason games with 23 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown, along with three catches for 15 yards. Then in the 2024 preseason, Wright had 18 rush attempts for 52 yards and two catches for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Prior to his time in the NFL, Wright enjoyed a successful college career, totaling 1,446 yards and 23 touchdowns over five seasons at William & Mary and Monmouth. His standout senior year at Monmouth in 2022, where he scored 16 touchdowns on just 73 carries, likely played a role in the Buccaneers' decision to sign him.
Wright will now look to earn a spot on the Buccaneers' 53-man roster during the upcoming preseason, which begins on August 9 with a matchup against the Tennessee Titans and the No. 1 overall pick, Cam Ward.
