UNC's Top Scorers Out vs. Rival NC State
18 Feb
Summary
- UNC's top two scorers, Wilson and Veesaar, will miss the NC State game.
- Star freshman Caleb Wilson is out indefinitely with a hand fracture.
- This marks the third game in program history without top two scorers.
No. 16 North Carolina faces a significant challenge as they travel to face rival N.C. State on Tuesday. The team announced that junior center Henri Veesaar will miss his second consecutive game due to a lower-body injury. Star freshman Caleb Wilson is already sidelined indefinitely with a hand fracture sustained last week.
Both Wilson, averaging 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds, and Veesaar, averaging 16.4 points and 9.0 rebounds, were absent from North Carolina's victory on Saturday. This marks a rare occurrence in the program's Atlantic Coast Conference history, being only the third game played without its top two scorers. The last instance was in February 1978 during a loss at N.C. State when future NBA players Phil Ford and Mike O'Koren were unavailable.
