Lions Reload: New Era Begins for UNA Football

The University of North Alabama football team is embarking on a new chapter with a substantially altered roster, as fall camp commenced on Wednesday. Head coach Brent Dearmon revealed that between 70 and 75 new players have joined the program, many arriving via the transfer portal. This influx of talent aims to elevate the team following a challenging 2-10 record in the 2025 season.

Adding to the team's preparation, Destin Wade has been officially named the starting quarterback. Coach Dearmon expressed confidence in Wade, noting that having a solidified leader at the position brings significant morale to the entire squad. Wade himself conveyed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Lions.

Fall camp will feature intense competition across all positions, as the coaching staff seeks to establish the optimal lineup. Dearmon emphasized a fluid depth chart, encouraging coaches to keep players motivated and avoid complacency. The Lions will train for several weeks before facing the Samford Bulldogs in their season opener on August 29 at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.
