The Miami Dolphins have released five-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Monday, marking a significant shift in the team's roster under new leadership. Hill, who will turn 32 in March, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram expressing gratitude for his time in Miami and signaling his readiness for a new opportunity, promising to return "turned up and locked in."
His departure comes as the Dolphins are expected to release other key players, including defensive end Bradley Chubb and offensive lineman James Daniels. Hill is currently recovering from a season-ending left knee injury requiring surgery, sustained on September 29 against the New York Jets. This injury marked the end of his impactful four-year tenure with the Dolphins, where he had quickly formed a strong connection with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
In his first season with Miami in 2022, Hill recorded 1,710 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He followed this performance by leading the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and touchdowns (13) in 2023, earning his eighth consecutive Pro Bowl selection. His release is also influenced by a substantial $51 million cap hit in 2026, providing the new general manager and head coach with financial flexibility.
While Hill's on-field contributions were significant, his time in Miami was also marked by off-field incidents. Reflecting on his future earlier this year, Hill mentioned the need for a thorough conversation with his family about his commitment to football due to its mental and physical toll. His decision to seek free agency indicates he has resolved these personal considerations.
