20 Jul
Summary
- Trump lingered on the podium after trophy presentation.
- He delayed Spain's World Cup victory celebration.
- FIFA boss Infantino urged Trump to leave the stage.
US President Donald Trump created an unusual moment at the World Cup trophy ceremony following Spain's victory. While presenting the trophy alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Trump remained on the winners' podium longer than expected.
After handing the World Cup trophy to Spain's captain Rodri, Trump did not immediately yield the stage. Both Rodri and Infantino attempted to encourage him to move, but Trump appeared to linger until photographers' flashes prompted him to slowly descend.
This delay drew attention, with observers noting Trump's apparent talent for time-wasting during the celebratory event. The situation concluded only after Trump eventually left the podium.
