Rookie Phenom Trey Thompson Ready to Shine

Redshirt freshman Trey Thompson is generating considerable buzz ahead of the upcoming basketball season. Initially a highly sought-after recruit in the class of 2026, Thompson reclassified and committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes after receiving offers from prominent programs like UConn and Purdue. He was redshirted during the 2025-26 season, a decision made to allow him to acclimate to the collegiate level and benefit from McCollum's summer program.

Thompson has impressed during recent team activities, earning rave reviews in an open scrimmage. He is expected to serve as an immediate offensive spark off the bench, likely filling a role as a backup at the 3 or 4 position. His known shooting ability, reportedly around 40% last season, and proficiency in pick-and-roll plays with Tate Sage, suggest he can be a valuable asset.

With high expectations due to his accolades, Thompson's role may fluctuate based on team needs and matchups. His defensive competitiveness and offensive versatility are anticipated to be key factors in his impact on the floor.
