Blazers Coaching Race Heats Up

Following a successful 2025-26 season, the Portland Trail Blazers are actively searching for a new head coach to align with owner Tom Dundon's vision. With Chauncey Billups not returning, the team has narrowed its choices to three candidates. Tiago Splitter, who led the team to its first postseason appearance in five years, is a prominent contender. His implemented system, a hybrid of Billups' and his own, focused on a faster offense and rebounding. As the only former NBA player among the finalists, Splitter might leverage player familiarity, particularly with veterans like Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday. However, owner Tom Dundon's apparent reservations could be an obstacle.

Micah Nori, with nearly two decades of assistant coaching experience, including significant success with the Minnesota Timberwolves, is another strong candidate. Known as an offensive specialist, Nori has a history of stepping in for head coaches and is recognized as a "player's coach" who empowers athletes. His expertise could address the Blazers' long-standing offensive struggles.

Tyler Lashbrook, the youngest candidate at 34, presents a "dark horse" option. His background includes player development roles with the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics, followed by a head coaching stint with the G-League's Maine Celtics. His offensive insights and player development skills are considered valuable assets for emerging talents like Donovan Clingan, Scoot Henderson, and Shaedon Sharpe, potentially making him the best long-term fit for Dundon's strategic objectives.
