Tony Jones Storms Off Set After Awkward Kiss Joke
23 Mar
Summary
- Tony Jones walked off The Footy Show live broadcast.
- A joke about kissing Rebecca Judd in 2016 caused the walk-off.
- Jones also had a past controversy involving Novak Djokovic.

Nine personality Tony Jones abruptly walked off the set of The Footy Show during a live broadcast on Sunday. The incident occurred after Gold Coast Suns player Zeke Uwland made a joke referencing a 2016 on-air attempt by Jones to kiss fellow presenter Rebecca Judd.
Uwland's quip, made as a guest on the program, referenced the now-infamous moment when Jones was rejected by Judd as she departed Nine's Melbourne news bulletin. Jones, visibly upset by the comment from the younger player, declared he was leaving the show.
This public departure is not Jones's first brush with controversy. In 2020, he detailed the on-air kiss attempt, explaining it stemmed from a panic over forgotten flowers. Earlier, in 2025, Jones faced global backlash for remarks made about Novak Djokovic and Serbian fans during the Australian Open, remarks for which he later apologized.
