30 Jan
Summary
- Mike Rutenberg is a leading candidate for DC.
- Rutenberg previously worked with Saleh three times.
- Saleh will call defensive plays regardless of DC.
The Tennessee Titans are zeroing in on a defensive coordinator, with Mike Rutenberg reportedly a top candidate for the role. Rutenberg, currently the defensive passing game coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, has a significant connection to the Titans' new head coach, Robert Saleh.
Their professional relationship spans three previous coaching stints together with the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, and San Francisco 49ers. This history positions Rutenberg as a familiar choice for Saleh's coaching staff.
Despite Rutenberg not having prior experience as a defensive coordinator, head coach Robert Saleh has stated he will be the primary play-caller on defense. This arrangement ensures Saleh's defensive expertise guides the team while Rutenberg supports the unit.
