Indian cricketer Tilak Varma is facing an uncertain future on the field after undergoing successful surgery for testicular torsion. The 23-year-old experienced acute pain while participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy One-Day Championship in Rajkot and was promptly taken to the hospital.
Diagnosed with testicular torsion, a painful condition where the testicle twists and cuts off blood supply, Varma required immediate surgical intervention. While the surgery was successful and he is now recovering, he is confirmed to miss the upcoming five-match T20 International series against New Zealand, which begins on January 21.
Varma's participation in the T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting February 7, is now in serious doubt. The condition, affecting about one in 4,000 men under 25, typically occurs spontaneously and requires prompt treatment within six hours to preserve the testicle.
