Tigers' Vest Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

The season is over for Tigers reliever Will Vest after he underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a fractured olecranon bone at the base of his elbow. This procedure was performed in Dallas. Vest is also scheduled for an arthroscopic surgery on his hip in the coming weeks to address inflammation he has dealt with for most of the season.

Vest was placed on the injured list on June 28 due to a stress fracture. After consulting with a specialist, surgery was recommended as the condition was not improving. Manager AJ Hinch expressed the team has missed Vest's contributions, acknowledging his crucial role in recent successful seasons. Vest's performance this season was uncharacteristically high with a 6.08 ERA, two saves, and five losses. The Tigers' bullpen has struggled without Vest, recording 18 losses after holding a lead late in games, along with 25 blown saves and only 21 saves. His season-ending injury is considered a significant blow to the team's relief efforts.
