Summary
- Austin Gomber signed a one-year minor league contract.
- He brings seven seasons of major league experience.
- Gomber will report to Triple-A Toledo for the Tigers.
The Detroit Tigers have signed left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber to a one-year minor league contract. Gomber, 32, brings significant major league experience, having pitched for seven seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies. He is set to report to Triple-A Toledo.
This acquisition is seen as a low-risk depth move for the Tigers. Gomber's extensive background as a starter and long reliever provides the organization with another internal option. This is particularly valuable as Detroit reshapes its pitching rotation after trading Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize.
Gomber has spent the current 2026 season in Triple-A with other organizations, where he has made 17 starts among 22 appearances. While his recent performance has been inconsistent, his veteran presence and potential to fill a starting or long-relief role are beneficial for the Tigers.
