Tigers Bounce Back After Rough Start to Second Half
2 Aug
Summary
- Tigers had best AL record in first half
- Lost 8 of 9 games after All-Star break
- Added veteran pitchers Paddack and Morton at deadline

As of August 2nd, 2025, the Detroit Tigers are starting to bounce back after a rough start to the second half of the season. The team had the best record in the American League for much of the first half, but a significant disappointment came when they lost 8 of their first 9 games after the All-Star break.
However, the Tigers have been playing better of late. While they didn't make any major splashes at the trade deadline, the team did add some veteran pitchers to provide depth for their rotation. They acquired Chris Paddack and Charlie Morton, both of whom have the potential to be solid fourth or fifth starters.
Paddack, in particular, has shown promise in his first two starts for the Tigers. He tossed six innings of three-hit, one-run ball against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his Detroit debut on July 30th. This followed another quality start, indicating the Tigers may have found a valuable addition to their pitching staff.
Despite the slow start to the second half, the Tigers remain in a good position to make a playoff push in 2025. Their conservative approach at the deadline suggests they are focused on the long-term, but the decisions made this summer could come back to haunt them if they don't find success in October.
