The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced a significant honor for golfing legend Tiger Woods. Beginning this year, his name will be associated with the U.S. Amateur medal and the U.S. Junior Amateur trophy. This tribute celebrates Woods' dominant amateur career, where he achieved unprecedented consecutive victories from 1991 to 1996.
Woods' three-peat wins in both the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Amateur championships remain an unmatched feat. The USGA's decision aims to connect future generations of golfers with Woods' exceptional achievements and his profound impact on the sport. He is now among elite golfers like Jack Nicklaus and Mickey Wright who have had honors named after them.
The U.S. Amateur trophy will now include the Tiger Woods Medal alongside its existing name. The U.S. Junior Amateur trophy will be known as the Tiger Woods Trophy. The first recipients of these renamed honors will be recognized at upcoming championships: the 126th U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club and the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club.
