Thibaut Courtois, the acclaimed goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has made a significant move into football club ownership by becoming a shareholder in the French Ligue 2 team, Le Mans. This strategic investment is being channeled through NxtPlay Capital, a company co-founded by the Belgian international.
Le Mans FC acknowledged Courtois's contribution, stating he brings "a very high level of expertise, both on a sporting and media level." His entry into ownership places him alongside other prominent figures in the sports world who have already invested in the club, including tennis legend Novak Djokovic and Formula 1 drivers Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen.
The club, founded in 1985, is currently fifth in the Ligue 2 standings, three points behind the league leaders. Le Mans has not competed in France's top flight, Ligue 1, since 2010, earning it the nickname "French Wrexham" due to the celebrity interest it has attracted.
Courtois, a four-time LaLiga champion and two-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, has a contract with the Spanish giants until June 2027. He is also expected to be a key player for Belgium in the upcoming World Cup.
