25 Feb
Summary
- TGL will introduce a women's league, WTGL, featuring top golfers.
- Wyndham Clark expressed openness to playing alongside women on TGL.
- Nelly Korda cited a missed opportunity for mixed-gender play at TGL.
The indoor simulator league, TGL, co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, has announced the creation of a women's league, WTGL. This new venture will feature prominent female golfers such as Charley Hull, Lydia Ko, Lexi Thompson, and Michelle Wie West, mirroring the format of the men's league.
Golfer Wyndham Clark has voiced his enthusiasm for potential mixed-gender competition within TGL. Having previously played with Lexi Thompson in the Grant Thornton Invitational, Clark indicated he enjoys competing with LPGA players and believes it would be "fun" and beneficial for fans to see mixed teams at TGL.
However, two-time major champion Nelly Korda expressed reservations about the league's structure. She described the decision not to integrate men and women playing together as a "huge and unbelievable miss," suggesting it was a revolutionary opportunity for golf to have men and women compete on the same field for equal prize money. Korda acknowledged the positive aspect of a dedicated women's league but still feels a significant chance for growth was overlooked.
