QB Sorsby Enters Treatment for Gambling Addiction

Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has announced an indefinite leave of absence from the team to enter a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction. The university stated its commitment to supporting Sorsby through his recovery process and ensuring his well-being.

This decision comes after Sorsby's high-profile transfer from Cincinnati. The university had initiated legal action against him, alleging a breach of his name, image, and likeness (NIL) contract, which reportedly included a $1 million buyout clause for transfers. Sorsby, who transferred to Texas Tech for a reported $5 million deal, began his collegiate career at Indiana.

Head coach Joey McGuire affirmed the program's full support for Sorsby, emphasizing his role as a person over his athletic status. The university highlighted its focus on fostering an environment where student-athletes feel empowered to prioritize their mental health and seek professional help, and will offer no further comment to protect Sorsby's recovery.
