Texas Longhorns Shine in NFL Ahead of 2025 Season
9 Aug
Summary
- 26 of 32 NFL teams have former Longhorns on their rosters
- 6 Longhorns set to face off in preseason game on Aug 9, 2025
- Denver Broncos have the most former Longhorns with 5 players

Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, the Texas Longhorns are making a strong showing across the league. Former Longhorns occupy at least one roster spot on 26 of the 32 total teams, meaning several NFL matchups will include players from the same college program on opposing sides.
One such game is a preseason matchup between the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers, scheduled for 7:30 pm on August 9th. This game will provide Texas fans the opportunity to watch six of their former favorites in action. The Broncos lead the way with five players from Texas on their roster, including cornerback Jahdae Barron, quarterback Sam Ehlinger, safeties Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke, and defensive tackle Malcom Roach. The 49ers, on the other hand, have just one former Longhorn on their team - defensive lineman Alfred Collins.
Despite being opponents on the field, the six players share a sense of camaraderie, with several of them overlapping during their time at the University of Texas. Barron and Collins, for example, played together from 2020 to 2024 before being drafted in the first and second rounds, respectively, of the 2025 NFL Draft. The other four Longhorns - Ehlinger, Roach, Locke, and Jones - all played together during the 2015-2020 seasons, a formative period for many NFL hopefuls.
