23 Oct
Summary
- UIL proposal allows traditional TV broadcasts of regular-season games.
- Schools must mutually agree to televise games under new guidelines.
- New heat-safety rules are now mandatory for UIL outdoor activities.

Texas high school football broadcasts are set for a potential transformation. The UIL Legislative Council has approved a proposal that would permit live, traditional television broadcasts of regular-season Friday night games, a significant shift from longstanding restrictions. This change requires mutual agreement between competing schools and awaits final approval from the Texas commissioner of education.
Historically, live TV broadcasts of regular-season Friday night games were restricted, though internet streaming has been permitted since June 2021. This new measure, if approved, would offer fans more ways to watch their local teams. The proposal does not mandate schools to televise games, as broadcast authority remains with the participating schools.
Beyond broadcasting, the UIL has also extended first-round playoff home-field advantage to all conferences, effective from the 2027-28 school year, pending commissioner approval. Furthermore, new statewide heat-safety requirements are now mandatory for UIL outdoor athletics and marching bands, utilizing Wet Bulb Globe Temperature measurements for monitoring and modified activities.
