Texas A&M has officially secured the No. 7 seed in the College Football Playoff, earning their inaugural appearance since the tournament's inception. The Aggies will host the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, December 20th, for a noon ET kickoff.
Miami's path to the playoff was aided by Duke's surprising win over Virginia in the ACC Championship Game. This result also impacted other teams, with Tulane and James Madison securing the 11th and 12th seeds. Miami's victory against Notre Dame earlier in the season was a key factor in keeping the Fighting Irish out of the CFP.
Despite suffering two regular-season losses, Miami showcased a strong performance in the latter half of the season, dominating opponents like Syracuse, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Pitt. Their offense averages over 425 yards per game, with quarterback Carson Beck throwing for 3,025 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Hurricanes' defense has also been formidable, limiting opponents to an average of 277.8 yards per game.
