Aggies QB Reed Ranked 18th Nationally Before Spring
6 Mar
Summary
- Marcel Reed will lead Texas A&M's offense for his third consecutive season.
- Reed achieved career-high stats in passing yards, touchdowns, and interceptions last season.
- ESPN ranks Reed 18th nationally among Power 4 quarterbacks heading into spring.

For the third consecutive season, redshirt junior Marcel Reed is set to lead the Texas A&M Aggies' offense in 2026. This marks Reed's second full year as the primary signal-caller after splitting starts in 2024. He committed to the Aggies before the 2023 season under former head coach Jimbo Fisher and remained with the program after Mike Elko took over.
Reed solidified his starting role during the 2024 season, despite beginning as a backup. While his performance has shown improvement, including career-highs of 3,169 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in the previous season, concerns linger about late-season slumps. These were particularly evident in the final game against Texas and in a College Football Playoff loss to Miami.
Despite these concerns, Reed has garnered national recognition, ranked 7th among SEC quarterbacks by CBS Sports and 18th overall by ESPN in their pre-spring Power 4 quarterback rankings. With a strong receiving corps returning, including KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, alongside new additions, the Aggies possess explosive offensive weapons. An improved run game is expected to complement Reed's passing, facilitating a more balanced offensive attack.
Texas A&M's spring football practices will commence on March 20 and conclude with the Maroon & White Spring Game on April 18. This period will be crucial for the team to refine its strategies and prepare for the upcoming 2026 season.
