17 Aug
Summary
- Texans trade WR John Metchie III and 2026 sixth-round pick for TE Harrison Bryant
- Metchie reunites with former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith on Eagles
- Texans regain 2026 fifth-round pick they had previously traded away

On August 17, 2025, the Houston Texans made a surprising move in the NFL trade market. The team has reacquired their own 2026 fifth-round draft pick, as well as tight end Harrison Bryant, from the Philadelphia Eagles. In exchange, the Texans have sent wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Eagles.
Metchie, a second-round pick by the Texans in 2022, will now reunite with his former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith in Philadelphia. The 23-year-old receiver missed his entire rookie season while battling leukemia but was leading the Texans in receiving this preseason with six catches for 53 yards.
As for Bryant, the former John Mackey Award winner has spent the past few seasons with the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders, totaling 98 receptions for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is expected to compete for the Texans' No. 3 tight end role, with Brevin Jordan out for the season with a lower-body injury.
The Texans will wrap up their preseason schedule next Saturday against the Detroit Lions before finalizing their 53-man roster ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
