No. 13 Tennessee decisively defeated No. 6 Kentucky with a final score of 34-6 following a physically contested second half. The Volunteers, clad in their Dark Mode uniforms, established an early lead with a touchdown run by Daune Morris. Despite early drives stalling due to penalties and execution issues, Tennessee capitalized on Kentucky's mistakes, including an interception and a strip-sack.
Key defensive plays, such as multiple sacks by Arion Carter and Daevin Hobbs, and a strip-sack recovered by Mariyon Dye, stifled Kentucky's offense. Offensively, Faizon Brandon's short-yardage success and a 24-yard touchdown pass to Mike Matthews extended Tennessee's lead. DeSean Bishop anchored the ground game, contributing 109 yards and two touchdowns.
Tennessee's defense held firm throughout the second half, with a crucial fourth-down sack by Carter. The Vols' offense methodically extended their advantage, with Bishop scoring twice more. The win highlighted Tennessee's control, particularly in the second half, where they controlled the line of scrimmage and managed the clock effectively.
