Tennessee Star Boo Carter Leaves Football Team After Suspension
17 Nov
Summary
- Boo Carter, Tennessee defensive back, no longer on the team
- Missed game due to disciplinary issues, expected to enter transfer portal
- Averaged 13.2 yards on 11 punt returns this season

As of November 17, 2025, Boo Carter is no longer a member of the Tennessee Volunteers football team. The former ESPN 300 recruit had a short and tumultuous career with the Volunteers.
According to a source, Carter did not show up at Neyland Stadium for the Volunteers' 42-9 victory over New Mexico State on November 11, 2025. The coaching staff had informed Carter that he would not be playing in the game due to disciplinary issues, but they still expected him to attend and watch from the sideline.
When asked about Carter's status after the game, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said, "At the end of the day, there's a standard you've gotta meet to be in that locker room, so he was not out on the field with us."
Carter, who had 25 tackles, three forced fumbles, three passes defended, and one sack as a backup nickelback this season, also missed a defensive snap in the Volunteers' 33-27 loss to Oklahoma on November 1, 2025, due to a coach's decision.
Shortly after the team confirmed Carter's departure, he announced on social media that he will not play the rest of the season due to injury and plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2, 2026.
