Teen and Coach Compete Together in Greece

A unique generational pairing has emerged on the international wakeboarding scene, with a 15-year-old junior athlete and his 60-year-old coach competing together for Great Britain. Marley O'Toole, from Camberley, and his coach Mark Osmond, from Elstead, are participating in the prestigious Europe and Africa Wakeboard Boat Championships held in Greece.

Osmond, notably the oldest competitor in the event, shared his journey, highlighting his initial role as one of O'Toole's first coaches. "It's incredible having him at the same competition," Osmond remarked about O'Toole, who has been training for seven to eight years. O'Toole reciprocated the sentiment, describing Osmond as a father figure in his wakeboarding career.

Competitors at the championships showcase their skills by performing 10 chosen tricks, which are then judged. Osmond, competing in the senior men's category, detailed the rigorous strength and conditioning required, involving three weekly sessions specifically for wakeboarding to maintain fitness. O'Toole, who trains at LDB Wakeschool, is advancing to the junior men's semi-final after a strong qualifier performance. He expressed his aspirations, stating, "My dream would be either a Red Bull sponsorship or just to win the world championships." The competition concludes on Saturday with the finals.
