Cricket Final Tickets Hit Sky-High Prices on Black Market
7 Mar
Summary
- Tickets are selling for over 15 times their original face value.
- Official tickets sold out within minutes, driving fans to unofficial markets.
- Hotel prices in Ahmedabad have also increased up to ten times.

The Twenty20 World Cup final, featuring India and New Zealand, has seen a dramatic surge in ticket prices on the black market. Fans are reportedly paying over 15 times the original rate as demand has drastically outstripped supply for the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Official tickets, initially priced at 2,000 Indian rupees, were unavailable within minutes of release.
Unofficial channels and resale platforms have become the go-to for desperate supporters. Tickets with a face value of 3,500 rupees were observed selling for 54,000 rupees. Scalpers are dominating the resale market, with fans resorting to private WhatsApp groups and advance payments to secure seats for India's bid for a second consecutive title.
This ticket inflation is not unprecedented, as fans recall similar situations during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Beyond match tickets, accommodation in Ahmedabad has also seen a significant price hike, with hotels near the venue charging up to 10 times their usual rates, some demanding 40,000 rupees per night.
The Gujarat Cricket Association stated they have no control over external sales, as all official bookings are managed through the BookMyShow app. The International Cricket Council has not yet commented on the situation.
