- Sterling values sportsmanship, especially when fighters check on opponents.
UFC fighter Aljamain Sterling recently shared an anecdote about Cory Sandhagen's reaction following their 2020 bout. Sterling recalled Sandhagen’s brief and somewhat colorful congratulatory remark after Sterling secured a win via submission in under 90 seconds.
This reflection came up as Sterling and his co-hosts discussed Andre Fili's commendable sportsmanship at UFC Vegas 122. Fili demonstrated impressive control after a head-kick knockout, immediately recognizing his opponent was unable to continue.
Sterling, who has experienced knockout losses himself, found Fili's actions particularly admirable. He stressed that such displays of restraint show a fighter's presence of mind and respect for their opponent's well-being, a quality he values highly in combat sports.
