Stankoven's Playoff Magic: From Slump to Superstardom

Carolina forward Stankoven has demonstrated remarkable resilience, turning a significant scoring drought into a series-defining performance. Between November 2025 and January 2026, he experienced a prolonged period where pucks weren't finding the net, despite creating chances. This difficult stretch was a stark contrast to his eventual career-high of 44 points (21 goals, 23 assists) in 81 regular-season games.

His scoring touch has returned at a critical juncture. Stankoven netted seven goals in the final eight games of the regular season, helping the Hurricanes secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference. He has continued this momentum into the playoffs, scoring four goals in the series against the Ottawa Senators, dismantling their defense.

Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour attests that Stankoven's effort and play style have remained consistent throughout the season, attributing his recent success to the "law of averages" finally working in his favor. Stankoven himself expressed that sticking with his game through ups and downs has been key.

Stankoven has a history of performing when it matters most. In his 2023-24 playoff debut with the Dallas Stars, he recorded eight points. After being traded to Carolina, he contributed five goals and three assists during their Eastern Conference Final run. His junior career also highlighted a penchant for scoring in postseason play, with 61 points in 31 WHL playoff games.

Despite his 5-foot-8, 165-pound frame, Stankoven plays with an intense physical presence and a non-stop motor, earning praise from teammates. Defenseman Sean Walker described him as a "little pitbull" who relentlessly pursues the puck and combines his hustle with notable skill. His ability to generate chances and create chaos on the cycle makes him a pivotal player for the Hurricanes' playoff aspirations.
