Sri Lanka recovered from early setbacks to post a total of 163-6 in their World Cup opener against Ireland. Kamindu Mendis was the catalyst for the resurgence, smashing a rapid 44 off 19 balls to shift the momentum.
With Sri Lanka struggling at 86-4, Mendis ended a long boundary drought and initiated a scoring spree. His explosive cameo, featuring four fours and two sixes, included a crucial 21-run over that significantly boosted the hosts' total.
Wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis played a vital supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 56 off 43 deliveries.
