£380M Spent, Still No Wins: Tottenham's Shocking Slide
19 Oct
Summary
- Tottenham has spent £380 million but remains winless in the Premier League.
- Despite poor form, Spurs are heavily favored against Coventry City.
- Coventry City has recently improved with two consecutive wins.
Despite a staggering £380 million investment over the summer, Tottenham Hotspur finds itself in a precarious position, seemingly heading towards another season battling relegation. As of October 2026, Spurs are the sole team in the Premier League yet to secure a victory, and remarkably, the last club across the entire Football League without a win.
This dire form is particularly surprising given the nearly £500 million manager Roberto De Zerbi was afforded to strengthen the squad, acquiring high-profile players like Sandro Tonali and Savinho. Despite these high-profile acquisitions and widespread praise for their transfer window, Tottenham has been unable to translate spending into points, scoring a meager three goals and being shut out in four of their initial six games.
In stark contrast, Coventry City, after a winless and goalless start to their Premier League campaign, has begun to turn their fortunes around. Manager Frank Lampard has guided his team to two recent victories, capped by an impressive 4-1 home win against Newcastle following the international break. This resurgence provides a glimmer of stability for the Sky Blues, a stark contrast to Tottenham's ongoing struggles.
The upcoming match sees Tottenham under immense pressure at home. Their offensive struggles, evidenced by just three goals and a low expected goals tally, leave them ill-equipped to handle the anticipated atmosphere. The betting odds, however, inexplicably favor Tottenham significantly over Coventry City, a discrepancy that defies their current league standing and recent performances.
