Anderson brings extensive coaching experience, including previous head coaching stints at Utah State and Arkansas State, where he accumulated a 74-54 record.
Anderson's tenure at Utah State concluded in July 2025 following violations of university policy, leading him to file a $15 million lawsuit against the institution in November 2025. Despite this, he returns to Southern Miss, where he previously served as offensive coordinator.
The Golden Eagles, with a 7-5 record, are set to compete against Western Kentucky in the New Orleans Bowl on December 23rd. Anderson's offensive leadership has historically been strong, and his name may be considered for the permanent coaching position.
