Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has publicly addressed criticism questioning her value and impact, particularly a recent column that described her as "too combustible." Cunningham, who is approaching unrestricted free agency after two seasons with the team, stated she is unfazed by such commentary.
She expressed that she has learned not to be swayed by external opinions, whether positive or negative. Cunningham's co-host characterized the column as a "hate piece" but focused on refuting its basketball-related claims.
He presented data showing Cunningham ranked highly among WNBA bench scorers and three-point shooters, with a notable effective field goal percentage. Cunningham reiterated her belief that her contributions often transcend standard statistical metrics.
Her comments come after her public stance on transgender athletes participating in women's sports led to demonstrations outside Fever games earlier in the season.
