A pre-game skydiving stunt at Virginia Tech's spring football game on Saturday took a frightening turn when one of the three participants struck the Lane Stadium scoreboard. The parachutist, who was carrying the American flag, became suspended on the structure shortly before the 3 p.m. ET kickoff.
Virginia Tech and Blacksburg first responders were immediately dispatched and successfully rescued the skydiver within approximately 15 minutes. The individual was checked by on-site medical personnel and cleared without serious injury, prompting gratitude for the rapid and safe resolution.
The game itself was briefly delayed as a result of the rescue operation, with players initially held back from taking the field. Wind gusts also impacted the other skydivers, with one landing on an adjacent practice field and only one successfully reaching the intended landing zone on the field.
